The Green House awarded new premises at St Agnes Lodge

Following a rigorous bidding process, The Green House is delighted to have been offered the purchase of St Agnes Lodge in St Pauls, Bristol. Supporting anyone affected by sexual abuse, the organisation has seen a 300% increase in demand for its counselling services over the last 3 years. Moving to the new site will provide vital additional space enabling The Green House to support over 500 men, women, and children each year.

Michelle Windle, Director of The Green House, said:

“We are thrilled to be one step closer to making St Agnes Lodge our new home. With the need for specialist counselling services at unprecedented levels, the new premises will enable the crucial expansion of our work.

The individuals we helped last year ranged from 3 to 79 years old. The new building will ensure we are equipped to support anyone who has experienced rape or sexual abuse at any point in their lives.  For the first time we will have a dedicated children’s room with purpose-built facilities for creative therapies such as art, drama and play that truly make a difference for children and young people processing their trauma.”

St Agnes Lodge was owned by Bristol City Council and subsequently registered as an ‘Asset of Community Value’ before being offered for sale exclusively to the third sector in Bristol.

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said:

“The council values the important work of The Green House and its therapists and it was a pleasure to assist the charity in their search for suitable premises in central Bristol. It is fantastic news that The Green House will be making the site their new home and I am delighted that it will enable them to extend their valuable work.”

Mark Hubbard, Voscur’s Head of Commissioning and Collaboration, said:

“Voscur welcomes the council’s ongoing commitment to working in partnership with the community sector in this way. Many Bristol community organisations are involved with and interested in managing important community assets, such as St Agnes Lodge.”

St Agnes Lodge has a long history as a neighbourhood focal point and The Green House has exciting plans to develop the site into a warm and welcoming therapy centre. Over the coming months The Green House and Bristol City Council will be working closely towards completion of the sale. The Green House will be launching a fundraising campaign to refurbish the currently derelict building with a view to relocating to St Agnes Lodge later in 2018.
