Counselling in Taunton

Our Taunton service, which is a few minutes’ walk from the train station, offers free counselling for men over 18 who have experienced any form of sexual abuse at any point in their lives.

What is counselling?

Counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing pain or making you feel uncomfortable.  It can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. Your counsellor is there to support you, they will respect your views and will not judge you. They will not give advice, but will help you to find your own insight and understanding of your problems.

How can I access counselling?

To sign up for counselling or to find out more about the service please call 0117 935 1707 or email info@nullthe-green-house.org.uk. We will take some basic details over the phone and add you to our waiting list for an initial assessment appointment with one of our counsellors. This appointment may be a few months after you first contact us and our team will liaise with you to confirm the exact time and date.

What is an initial assessment?

This is a meeting with a senior counsellor to discuss your needs and for you to ask any questions about the service. Together you will explore ways in which we might help you and what you might be hoping to get from counselling. If you both decide that counselling could be helpful, we will offer you this as soon as we can.

What happens after my assessment?

We will begin your counselling as soon as a space is available and we will keep you up to date on how long the wait will be. Your counselling will be at the same time and place each week with the same counsellor (although they may be different from the one you met at your assessment).

How long will I wait?

Currently the wait time for counselling is up to 3 months.

Is there help I can access while I am waiting for counselling?

There are a range of other local services which may be helpful while you are on our counselling waiting list.  You can visit our Information and Support page to find out more information about these options.

What if I am not ready for counselling?

Reflecting on yourself and your experiences in counselling can be painful.  If you or your counsellor feel it is not a suitable time for therapy, there are other types of services that may be helpful. We would recommend visiting the Survivor Pathway website to find out what is available in your local area.
