A Day In the Life Of Our Research Manager

A Day In the Life Of Our Research Manager

Join our Research Manager Josh for a typical day at The Green House

9:00 I arrive at my desk and check for any new emails or messages with a big cup of coffee. The therapy building is full on a Monday so today I’m in our shared office space down the road. The start of our Q2 reporting period is coming up which is always busy, and there is a bit of admin around deadlines to sort.

9:30 A quick catch up with Megan, our Head of Fundraising, about data required for a funding application she is working on this week. It’s not the usual data we report on, so we chat over what can and can’t be done before making a plan.

10:00 Giorgio, our Data Analyst, shows me the new tool he has been working on. We currently have an Excel file that pulls together all the data we need for reporting, and Giorgio has been working on a new version using PowerBI that we hope is going to be quicker and allow us to do more with the data. Exciting!

10:30 I start to pull the data required for the funding application. We made big changes to our referral form back at the end of September 2024, and this is the first time I’m able to look at a full 12 months of data using the new questions. I make a note to pull together a briefing paper with this new data.

12:00 I head over to the therapy building to join the Family Support Work team meeting. It’s not a meeting I would normally join, but I want to talk with them about the funding request I’m working on. We have a good chat about what we currently collect, and the feasibility of collecting more should it be needed. I want to make sure that anything extra is also beneficial to their work, and they agree that what we’ve discussed would be.

1:00 Time for a lunch break. I take the opportunity to check on my fantasy rugby team. It was the first round of the season at the weekend and I’ve lost my matchup, so changes are needed!

1:30 I finish off the analysis from this morning and combine with my notes from the team meeting before sending it all to Meg.

3:30 I arrange a call with our case management system provider. I want to talk with them about some updates we want to make, including adding our Initial Meeting form as an updatable form on the system. This would mean no more uploading and downloading files for practitioners and would also make it much easier for Giorgio and myself to anonymously review and analyse the data in the forms. Fingers crossed they can make it work.

4:00 Tomorrow I have the monthly meeting with Nat, our Service Manager, and Becky, our Clinical Lead. We look at wait lists and wait times and review the therapy slots we currently have available, so I want to make sure I have all that up-to-date ready to talk through.

5:00 All done for the day I head to get the train home and take my labradoodle Sam out for a walk. I say walk, he’s 12 now and rarely in the mood to go far so it’s more of a sit by the river. But that suits me!
