When My Mind Turned Against Me

In this blog post, Katie, a young person from the VOICE/Green House Community shares her artwork and her hopes for anyone that sees it. The piece touches on the subject of death and suicide. Katie wanted to share this artwork with others to say, “If you feel like this then it does get better”. Katie said that if there’s others that have gone through some of these feelings, she wants to give them hope that they will come out of it too.

1. What do you hope others realise or think when they see your artwork?
That’s something I went through and made it out alive and I want people to know that. I hope people will know they’re not alone even if they feel it, there’s always someone there and in the end it will get better.

2. How have things changed for you since creating this piece of artwork?
When I made this piece of artwork I thought I wasn’t enough. I hated myself and since that artwork was made, I’ve started to love myself and find worth in myself.

3. What has helped you move forward since you created this piece?
Knowing I wasn’t alone I had people around me that cared about me even when I didn’t treat them right because I thought everyone hated me but in the end of it I just knew I wasn’t alone.

4. What would you say to someone that shares some of the same feelings and thoughts as you did at the time of creating this artwork?
It might feel bad right now. You might have good and bad days but you don’t need to end things to feel nothing at all because if you fight for it you will make it out stronger than before.

5. How do you hope people will remember this piece after they’ve seen it?
I hope people will just remember that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

"I've always believed in "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" because although it don't seem it, you're a lot stronger than you was before. Every scar you may have is a battle and it's a battle you survived. If you feel like this then take some time. Take a day take a week take a month take a year but don't take your life. You're worth so much more than you think."
